Other Characters: Kiryu Kazuma, Vlad Dracula Tepes, Makima, Jonathan Sims

Character Name: Belgarion Irongrip
Series: The Belgariad/Malloreon by David Eddings
Age: 25+
From When?: Garion is from after the completion of the story covered in Polgara the Sorceress

Warden Justification: Garion is an experienced adventurer, a practical ruler with experience in dealing with big personalities and intense conflicts, and honestly? A really good dude. More than that, though, he's a person who had to learn how to accept a lot of unpleasant truths, that his life was not going to be what he originally thought it would be, and that while sometimes things can be set up by fate or destiny or the machinations from others, ultimately what you choose to do is the most important. He's intensely human at times, intensely INHUMAN at times, and he's very good at getting to the heart of a matter. He's plainspoken, creative, good at understanding complex ideas in a tangible way, and he knows when to listen to his heart and when to listen to his head. He's literally bulit, like, exists ENTIRELY to put right what went wrong and he's actually got a pretty good head on his shoulders, even if he heads towards danger by design instead of running away. He has experience in dealing with complicated issues, tangled morality, and despite his very strangely divided world, sees people for who they are more than any of the trappings.

Item: His amulet, which can tell him about his inmate by letting him 'scry' in a portion of it.

Abilities/Powers: Garion is a sorcerer, a user of the Will and the Word. He's the most powerful sorcerer in his world, made specifically to be able to challenge a god and rewrite the course of his universe. The specifics (or lack thereof) can be found here, though I'll note another limit not mentioned there: it can't be used to unmake something. To do so will reverse on you and have the Universe unmake you instead. Some examples of sorcery include: making an object from nothing, transformation, growing plants, moving objects, blocking mind probes, speak to animals, creating SEP fields, shapeshifting into animals, throw his shadow across hundreds of miles and make it do things, doing mind probes, hearing when his name is used somewhere, banishing demons, etc. etc. etc.

He's also a master swordsman, an accomplished politician, an experienced traveler, a decent haggler, an excellent horseman, better at covert movement than you'd expect, and someone who has actually made the Arends do something logical for once in their lives.

He will not be bringing the Orb or the Sword of the Rivan King as one is a game breaking item that kills on contact with anyone else but him or his son and the other needs the Orb to really be functional.

Wardening Strategies and Philosophies: Garion's going to take to the Barge like a fish to water, because that's literally what he's been made and raised and shaped to do. He learns at an incredible rate, and he rolls with whatever insanity gets thrown at him with great practicality and his head firmly on his shoulders. He'll view his wardenhood as a responsibility but not as anything that puts him above anyone else, much like how he tends to rule his kingdom, with a tendency to want to listen to inmates and a realistic understanding of people being people and just how complicated morality can get when someone's in an impossible situation. He's going to handle his inmate like he does most things: pretty plain spoken, down to earth, and honest... which does not mean he won't be sneaky as hell when or if he has to be. He has a tendency to listen in to conversations he's not involved in and to ask questions, which works well with how good he is at making complicated things make sense.

Strengthwise, he's very likeable, unassuming, and he can roll with just about anything someone would throw at him. He can be stubborn about some things, but he sees reason pretty quickly and he's too practical to do anything that would have lasting negative consequences for his own pride or vanity. He's surprisingly creative, essentially fearless, and problem solving is basically the entire reason he was created. On a purely logistical plane, he's been a king, a scullery boy, a smith's apprentice, a warrior, handled trade, handled management, worked with spies, dealt with warfare, and he's done a whole lot of traveling through a whole lot of cultures, lands, and even dealt with gods. He's got a 7000 year old grandfather and a 3000 year old aunt and he, himself, is a sorcerer which gives you a lot of insight and advantages. So he's got a wide breadth of experience and he tends to be very perceptive and introspective, not always hitting the right answer first, but hitting it eventually.

As with most cases, his strengths are, when over indulged, sometimes part of his weaknesses. He doesn't like to pull out his experience or his power and he can come off as a little too chill at times, sometimes even to a cruel level (go ahead, bleed to death, see if I care). Because he doesn't really 'get' the whole pride or vanity or really very much selfishness at all, or being impractical, it can be a bit of a blocker to understanding someone for whom this would be a primary or important motivator. He can be impetuous and hasty, which combined with his creativity can sometimes result in unintended consequences. He's also got something of a temper, burning hot but short and while he can be stubborn, he does see reason eventually, usually when he sees what harm is being done by it.

For good matches, honestly anyone who wants to get out of there is going to be a good match. He doesn't let problems sit idle and he's good at adjusting his approach to the person he's dealing with. What he's bad at handling, and who he'd be a bad match for, is someone who's apathetic or someone who doesn't care about leaving. He's very content to let someone be who and what they are and giving someone motivation or looking for it for them is not something he enjoys or believes in. He'd do his duty to protect others and ensure that his inmate didn't cause any harm (and punish them appropriately if necessary) but without an end goal, he'd be content to let things sit.

Deal: To extend his wife's life to match his own.

Sample Network Entry:

I'm not my grandfather. I'm not my Aunt Pol either.

This kind of storytelling isn't my talent.

I get the feeling that if I was at sword point, with a guard threatening to cut off my fingers, I'd be able to weave a tale convincing enough and entertaining enough to have him let me go; I've had plenty of practice and instruction from a variety of expert liars and scoundrels over the years (several of them fellow kings, I might add) that have made me better with that skill than these hayseed looks would lead you to believe. But sitting peacefully in my cabin with a pen and parchment, trying to record everything for a proper story is not a talent I was given nor a skill I've had the time to develop.

I'll have to ask Anheg if he has any tips the next time I see him. I'm sure he's given his scribes reasonably specific instructions, after all. And a king speaks to history.

My grandfather insists history is very forgiving, and my aunt insists that books are largely useless, but I think that a record of this place and all its oddities might serve my predecessors, should they ever be approached by a being like the Admiral. And given I'm not half-mad and covered in filth, I intend to make it a bit clearer than the Mrin or Darine Codexes were to me. But I can, at least, see now that there is some difficulty to the task.

Especially as I've just spent at least three paragraphs blathering on about it instead of broaching the subject I sat down to write about. Specifically, the dangers of the mistletoe plant during the month before Erastide...
